Exceptional Family Ky Magazine
The Kentucky Council on Developmental Disabilities (KCDD) and Lexington Family Magazine have once again collaborated to bring you a free Kentucky magazine for people with disabilities, their families and the professionals that support them.
Welcome to the Parent Resource and Title I Parent Involvement Center!

The Parent Resource and Title I Parent Involvement Center was created by Franklin County Public Schools to be a source of support and information for parents and families, to offer parents encouragement and support, and to share ways to work as a team with the child's school so the child can be prepared for his or her future.

Workshops are provided on a variety of topics which may include Organizational and Study Skills, Parents Sharing Books, Understanding Special Education, and more.

A lending library is available with videos, books, and other materials regarding ADHD, autism, discipline, enriching your parenting skills, homework help, helping your child with reading, etc. (Please see "Lending Library Resources" in the Downloads section of this webpage.)

Two district-wide support groups for parents of children with ADHD or Autism will meet at Hearn Elementary School according to the schedule below.
ADHD Support Group: 6:00 p.m. on 9/10, 11/12, 1/14, 3/11, and 5/13.
Autism Support Group: 6:00 p.m. on 9/17, 11/19, 1/28, 3/18, and 5/20.

Each elementary school in our district receives funding for a school-wide
Title I program, designed to upgrade the effectiveness of the entire school program with the express purpose of helping all students to achieve. Parents will be invited to school-wide parent involvement meetings. A parent involvement newsletter, Home & School Connection, will be sent home September through May with each elementary school student. A parent involvement calendar will be included on the back of the school breakfast and lunch menu September through May.

There are many ways to be involved in your child’s education this school year. 1) Provide your child a nutritious breakfast and a good night’s sleep. Children learn more easily when they are well-fed and well-rested. 2) Talk with your children daily about their homework and school activities. It will contribute to their school success. 3) Read to and with your children regardless of their ages. It will improve their reading and vocabulary skills. 4) Contact your child’s teacher about how to get involved and how to support your child’s individual progress. Regular communication helps teachers and parents work as a team. 5) Attend parent/teacher conferences, parent involvement meetings and workshops, and become a part of your school’s parent/teacher organization. Your participation in school activities sends your children the message that you value their education.

From the Downloads section of this webpage, you may print a variety of parent involvement resources. Please contact Stacy Moore at 352-2425 or stacy.moore@franklin.kyschools.us if you would like more information or to access the services of the Parent Resource and Title I Parent Involvement Center.
