Gifted and Talented

A Little Bit About Us….

Melissa Rash

Teaching is one of the most rewarding professions! I have taught in the Franklin County Public School system for the past 10 years. I began my career teaching fourth grade at Bridgeport Elementary in 2002. In the fall of 2010, I decided it was time for a new challenge!  It has been so exciting to be a part of the Franklin County Gifted and Talented program! We have so many exciting and challenging things planned for our gifted and talented students in the upcoming school year   As for my educational background, I earned my B.A. in Elementary Education from Centre College in 2002, my M.A. in Education with a Gifted Endorsement from Georgetown College in 2007, and my Rank I/Principalship Certification from the University of Kentucky in May 2009.

I have always loved school, so when it came time for me to choose a career, I thought teaching to be perfect!  I attended college at Eastern Kentucky University, where I majored in middle grades education with an emphasis in math and science.  I graduated in 2002 and began my teaching career where I went to middle school in Hardin County teaching 8th grade science. I taught there for 2 years.  I married my husband, Tommy, and we moved to Frankfort. I taught 7th grade science at Bondurant Middle for 3 years, and in 2007, I had the opportunity to work with the Gifted and Talented Program as a part time teacher. This worked out perfectly for me, since I was torn between wanting to be a stay at home mom, and also have a career.  I have been working with the gifted and talented program since 2007 and love it. I have 2 children, Presley and Lex.

From a young age, I knew I wanted to be a teacher.  So after high school I started my education to make that happen  I earned my B. A. in education from Transylavania University in 2000.  After I graduated from Transy, I decided to add additional endorsement areas and attended Eastern Kentucky University and Northern Kentucky University and received my endorsement for Middle Grades Math Education.  I began teaching in the Franklin County School System at Bondurant Middle School in 2002. During my time at BMS I taught 8th Grade Math and Algebra. While I was teaching at BMS, I completed my M. A. in Education with a Gifted Endorsement from Georgetown College in 2007.  I began working with the Gifted and Talented Program in Franklin County in 2009 at the middle school level.  I have enjoyed the opportunity to work with the students and teachers at both middle schools.  As we begin our new school year we are working to plan for many challenging and exciting activities for our students to participate in throughout the year. And I am looking forward to another great year with our students!
